Below is a sample of answers I provide during free consultations. The answers are to people's questions posted on the legal website AVVO. The AVVO website lists and rates lawyers regardless of whether the lawyer approves of the listing / rating. Lawyers can pay AVVO for advertising. I do not pay AVVO and am not otherwise affiliated with the company in any way. Since my profile is listed there whether I like it or not, I figured I'd take advantage of the web presence and fill in more of my contact information than was listed without me "claiming" the listing. Figured I'd also answer a few questions along the way.
My answers always recommend retaining and consulting with legal counsel. That is because my purpose of advising in an initial consultation is to provide the potential client with some of the more important factors to consider when dealing with a legal situation. I often include a focus on practical concerns because in the end situations involving the law are often really about practical problem solving. To obtain concrete advice that can be relied upon is best to retain a lawyer that you trust, pay them for that advice (whether on a billable hour or contingency basis), and follow that advice.
